GET A PEEK AT A FEW PLANTS ON THE AUTUMN MOON FARM.
A little over a year ago I moved with my husband and two daughters to a small suburban farm just outside of Detroit. In ages past, our town was a big farming town. But like many towns, it has given way to growth and the landscape is very different now.
We were lucky enough to find a small home tucked away on a street that is still zoned as agricultural. This past year we have put down roots in a neighborhood mostly unchanged from when it began. Most of our neighbors were born and raised on our street and now live with multiple generations of their own families. There is a sweet sense of community and love that you just don’t find everywhere.
We fell in love with the land here – 5 acres of sprawling field surrounded by a conifer grove to the west and a hardwood forest in back
The plant life is varied and very different from our previous home in the same town. When we first moved, although some of our plants traveled with us, my heart missed my old yard and the plants I knew so intimately, like old, comfortable friends.
But this spring, I began to connect with our new surroundings. Getting to know some of these new, unfamiliar faces, while saying a comforting hello to the plants that traveled with us here last summer.
Many of these plants grace products in the Autumn Moon boutique. Some are grown organically with love by my daughters and I, while others grow wild and free on our pesticide-free land. My hope is that when these plants make their way to your skin and body, you feel the love. <3
